Who are we looking for?

We are looking for candidates with advanced skill sets in two areas: carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and painting. Additionally, basic skills in various maintenance tasks are necessary. These include drywall, light fixtures, light electrical, plumbing, lock changes, and various typical residential situations.

Do I need to be certified?

Certifications are not required but welcome and will be considered for the pay rate.

What else should candidates bring?

  • A valid driver's license
  • Own a vehicle to move around the properties
  • Own tools
  • Great attitude!
  • Tech savviness to use a smartphone, make calls, store photos from their work, close work orders in an app (we'll give you training on our systems)

What does GC offer?

  • A W2 role, we are looking for stable professionals We will give you at least 40-hour weeks, guaranteed.
  • Work during Monday to Friday, standard operation hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Medical, dental, vision insurance, optional life and AD&D, disability, critical illness, 401k plans
  • PTO, a birthday holiday, paid holidays
  • Weekly gas stipend of up to $150. You put the wheels and we put the gas.

Where will I be going?

That depends on the work order flow, but you will be typically assigned to Southwest and Northwest Chicagoland.

What does a 'typical' day look like at GC?

Every day is different. You will get work orders assigned to you by the Maintenance Dispatcher. The work orders will be sent to your phone so you can review them. You can get assigned to a work order at a vacant unit (turnover work) or to occupied properties. You can be assigned to a sole work order for the day or to several work orders in the same day, it depends on the work orders we get and the estimated time it will take you to complete them.

You don't have to physically check in or check out at the office, but we do expect a lot of communication from you (through your phone) with the staff back at the office. Once you are done with your assigned work orders and the day is done, you drive back home.

Want To Remain A Vendor & Not Employee Status??

Being a W2 employee means you get benefits from your employer like health insurance, dental insurance, 401k, and paid time off, along with them handling your tax withholdings.

On the other hand, as a 1099 contractor, you're essentially your own boss, so you don't get those employee benefits and have to manage your own taxes. While you miss out on employer-provided benefits, you gain flexibility and the potential to deduct business expenses.

Below are are the differences between the two opportunities we have here at GCR&D!
